According to their maker, about 700 frozen waffle recalled products – some marketed under well-known stores like Kroger, Target, and Walmart—were recalled on Friday due to possible contamination with the pathogen Listeria monocytogenes.
The problem “was discovered through routine testing at the manufacturing facility,” according to a statement released by TreeHouse Foods, which also announced a voluntary recall.
According to TreeHouse, no verified reports of disease are linked to the recalled products.
TreeHouse, which has over twenty production facilities in the US and Canada, said that the recall impacted products supplied in both countries in different formats.

Several Kroger’s Simple Truth protein waffles, Target’s Good & Gather Homestyle and Buttermilk flavors, and Walmart’s Great Value Homestyle and Blueberry waffles were among the frozen waffle brands impacted by the recall.
Although uncommon, listeria infections—bacteria that can contaminate food – can result in potentially dangerous illnesses.
Frequent symptoms consist of headaches and fever. Pregnant women, elder people, and small children are most at risk for more severe and sometimes fatal side effects.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate that 1,600 individuals in the country contract listeria annually and that around 260 of those cases result in fatalities.
Dr. Stuart C. Ray, the professor of medicine and infectious diseases at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore, stated on Saturday that “we see it most frequently in people with immune systems that are damaged in some way, and that can be the very young or the very old.”
Signs and symptoms “may be as severe as meningitis, but it can be as simple as gastroenteritis,” he continued.
The incubation period for a listeria infection can range from a few days to several weeks. An infection may not show symptoms right away.
This year, several deli firms have released recalls because of listeria incidents.

Boar’s Head, a deli meat brand, came under fire recently when it was discovered that one of its Virginian facilities had dead flies, black mildew, and water dripping over meat. Nine deaths were connected to foods that were distributed from that facility and contained listeria.
Additionally, due to listeria, another meat supplier, BrucePac, recalled almost 10 million pounds of beef and poultry items this month.
According to Dr. Ray, food plants and facilities are frequently the focal points of listeria outbreaks because of the bacteria’s resistance to cold temperatures.
He said it may live on moist surfaces in factories and food processing areas. Animals, including livestock that don’t seem ill, can share it. It may enter our food chain in subtle ways that are not always evident.
Customers can determine whether their waffle goods included in the recall by looking up the lot code on them, according to TreeHouse. Any goods that consumers have in their freezers should throw out or returned to the store for a refund.
Problems with Food Safety and How to Prevent Them
Listeria
Boar’s Head deli meats have been connected to a listeria epidemic, which prompted the company’s seven million-pound product recall. This is important to know.
Elevated Lead Levels
A consumer group tested 36 cinnamon items, and the results showed that 12 of them had elevated lead levels. This study confirmed worries about metals in food after scores of children were poisoned by tainted cinnamon applesauce last year.
Refreezing Food
Provided you stick to these recommendations, moving dishes and ingredients back and forth between the refrigerator and freezer can done without incident.
E. Coli
An estimated 265,000 Americans become ill with this bacteria yearly; it recently discovered in walnuts and ground beef.
Norovirus
The virus is highly contagious and unpleasant, as anyone who has had it can attest.
Salmonella
Eating undercooked meat or other infected foods can frequently result in a bacterial infection known as salmonellosis.
