In the UK and Ireland, Roblox players have a new opportunity. As part of an effort to highlight prospective employment options to youth, Ikea stated that it will hire ten people to manage its virtual Roblox store.
However, this time, children are not permitted to join, since eligibility will be determined by BloxzMedia and you must be at least 18 years old.
The job application’s advertisement states, “You have the opportunity to move divisions, flex your skills, and get promoted with us.”
Additionally, it explains how workers might pursue a “unique” career path. Roles range from virtual meatball survival in the café to assisting clients in selecting furnishings that they can buy online.
The application process is a little complicated; before logging your regular information, you have to answer questions such as “What would you do if we ran out of pixelated hot dogs in our bistro?” choosing “If you were an Ikea furniture piece in Roblox, which one would you be and why?” What else would you expect from a business advertisement? It’s all a little weird, a little bit like trying too hard to be down with the youngsters.

This contract has restrictions, so you might not get the opportunity to work in a virtual Ikea for very long. However, it is remote and pays £13.15/€14.80 per hour, which is not too terrible for virtual employment.
However, despite all of these advantages, businesses’ desperate attempts to replicate our lives in a fully virtual environment have a very gloomy quality. These attempts often lack the genuine essence of human interaction.
Even said, this isn’t the first time a company has used Roblox to promote and replicate its brand. Walmart started selling physical goods in its Roblox online store a few months ago.
Even though there were only three things available for customers to purchase in Roblox and have mailed to them, this still offered a little taste of what was possible with the game platform.
The requirement for candidates to be at least 18 years old is the only thing keeping this job posting viable. Otherwise, promoting it to a Roblox audience, primarily composed of young people, would be unethical.
Since this is still in its early phases, let’s hope it offers gamers who desire additional employment alternatives a positive experience. We want it to avoid drawing Roblox into the muddy waters it occasionally finds itself in, particularly concerning child labor.
