The need for dependable electricity has never been greater, especially because Texas is the state with the fastest population increase in the country.
Entergy Texas is proposing two significant transmission projects to ensure Southeast Texas has the infrastructure it requires to grow and to keep the lights on during ordinary use and extreme weather, as more families and companies relocate there.
The business recently submitted two proposals to the Public Utility Commission of Texas: the Cypress to Legend 500-kilovolt Transmission Line Project and the Southeast Texas Area Reliability Project, or SETEX.

Strengthening Energy Infrastructure Across Southeast Texas
By increasing capacity for new residences and businesses, lowering the risk of outages, and promoting investment and job growth in the area, these transmission lines will enhance the flow of energy throughout Southeast Texas.
Additionally, they will guarantee adherence to federal reliability criteria established by the North American Electric Reliability Corporation and improve grid resilience by introducing regional variety, which would help the system better survive harsh weather.
The SETEX project, if permitted, would connect new substations in Newton and Montgomery counties and extend up to 160 miles of 500-kV transmission line to the western part of Entergy Texas’s 27-county service territory.
Project Scope: SETEX and Cypress to Legend
Between Hardin and Jefferson counties, the Cypress to Legend line would extend for a maximum of 49 miles. The PUCT will choose the ultimate route for each project as part of the regulatory review process, even when there are several routes and route segments being considered.
Eliecer Viamontes, CEO of Entergy Texas, stated, “We have a responsibility to grow with the communities we serve as they continue to grow.”
“The goal of these investments is to get Southeast Texas ready for the future, which includes more families, businesses, and opportunities. Our objective is to strengthen the foundation for the future of the area and create a reliable grid that consumers can rely on.
A Long-Term Vision for Reliability and Affordability
The Midcontinent Independent System Operator, the local transmission organisation that manages energy planning in 15 U.S. states and Manitoba, Canada, is where Entergy Texas works.
According to MISO’s long-range planning process, the SETEX and Cypress to Legend projects are both essential to guaranteeing dependable and reasonably priced service as demand keeps rising. Cypress to Legend should be operational by 2028, and SETEX should follow in 2029, if the PUCT approves it.
Entergy Texas’ Southeast Texas Energy Plan, or STEP Ahead, includes these projects as essential elements. A long-term plan called STEP Ahead aims to boost regional economic growth, increase dependability, and foster thriving communities.
To serve one of the regions of the nation with the fastest rate of development, the comprehensive plan involves investments in distribution, transmission, generation, and resilience.
Electricity rates have been below the state and national average for over ten years thanks to Entergy Texas’s sustained emphasis on prudent, economical planning.
