“Yes, I did; it was an open secret (retirement). Even if we lost, I was not going to keep quiet. “It’s time for the next generation to take the T20 game forward,” Kohli said when asked whether he was making a formal statement regarding his retirement.

“We’ve had a long wait to win an ICC event. Consider Rohit (Sharma), who has participated in nine T20 World Cups, whereas I am in six.

“He deserved it.” It’s been tough to hold things back (emotions), and I believe it will settle in later. “It’s an incredible day, and I’m grateful,” Kohli said.

Virat Kohli is a unique cricketer who has won both the ODI and T20 World Cups. Virat Kohli made his T20I debut in 2010 and has since competed in several T20 World Cups. But every time, India fell short until the 2024 edition, when Kohli emerged as a savior following India’s disastrous start against South Africa.

He hit a tough 76 from 59 balls to help India set a T20 World Cup record of 176/7.

Virat Kohli concluded his brilliant career with 4188 runs in 125 matches, an average of 48.69.
