The notion that there is currently an excess of tourism in the Autonomous Region of Madeira has been denied by the regional secretary for Economy, Tourism, and Culture today.
On the outskirts of the tourist achievement awards event held this morning at the Convento de Santa Clara in Funchal, Eduardo Jesus stated he disagreed with “this logic of thinking that we have too much tourism,” and demanded evidence to support his claims.

The regional secretary explained, “What we find out here and compared with other tourist destinations, we understand that we are an endless distance away.”
He claims that it is calculated by taking the number of overnight stays and dividing it by the number of residents and square kilometers of the region.
