Minnesotans Can Apply for $1,500 E-Bike Rebate on Wednesday

Minnesotans can now apply for a $1500 e-bike rebate starting this Wednesday. Save on your new e-bike and enjoy eco-friendly commuting.

On Wednesday, applications for Minnesota’s new e-bike rebate program, which offers up to $1,500 per purchase, will open.

Beginning on July 1, the new program aims to lower the price of a brand-new e-bike from participating stores. Applications can be submitted to the Minnesota Department of Revenue starting on Wednesday at 11 a.m.

The buyer’s qualifying expenses are discounted by 50% to 75%, depending on their income. The e-bike’s purchase price cannot be more than the rebate value.

The program permits rebates of up to $2 million per year in 2024 and 2025.

The state claims that after receiving 10,000 applications, it will no longer accept new ones. To apply, click here and view the application process video here.

On May 1, an online portal became available for retailers to apply to be program-eligible retailers. Click here to register as a retailer.

What are some of the prerequisites?

  • At least 15 years old
  • A resident of Minnesota, at least for the year 2023
  • Date of Birth
  • Social Security number
  • Status of tax filing
  • 2023 adjusted gross income

You can also use a built-in calculator on the Department of Revenue’s website to calculate the amount of your reimbursement.

If the state grants your e-bike rebate, you must use it at an approved retailer within two months before it expires.

The department notes that if funds remain in the program after October 1st, the state will continue to reimburse applicants who never received a certificate.
