Biden Apologizes to Zelenskyy for Aid Delays, Praises Ukraine War Efforts

Biden apologizes to Zelenskyy for aid delays and praises Ukraine's war efforts, highlighting the US commitment to support Ukraine.

US President Joe Biden expressed regret to his counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy for earlier setbacks in Washington’s help to Kyiv and emphasized that the US is “not going to walk away” from its support of the country.

At their meeting on Friday in Paris, outside of commemorations of D-Day, the US president unveiled a $225 million aid package to support Ukraine’s efforts to reconstruct its electrical grid.

Biden emphasized that the US will support Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression. He declared, “We’re still in—completely, thoroughly.”

Tens of billions of dollars have been sent by Washington to Kyiv to aid stop the Russian onslaught, which started in February 2022. However, earlier this year, due to a standoff in Congress over the authorization of further aid, the amount of money the Biden administration could provide to Ukraine started to run low.

Biden Apologizes to Zelenskyy Amidst Funding Delays and Ongoing Conflict in Ukraine

Right-wing politicians have expressed doubts about US backing for Ukraine. Legislators attempted to further complicate matters by connecting aid to Ukraine to other problems, such as support for Israel and domestic objectives.

A $61 billion funding plan for Ukraine was enacted by Congress in April following months of discussions between the White House and congressional leaders, and it was signed into law by President Biden. Additionally, the bill gave Israel $14 billion in defense funding.

“I apologize for the weeks that you have been unaware of the status of funding,” Biden Apologizes to Zelenskyy, blaming the funding bill’s delay on “extremely conservative” members of Congress.

Following months of negotiations during which Moscow gathered forces close to the Ukrainian border and Russian President Vladimir Putin demanded a stop to NATO expansion into former Soviet republics, Russia launched an all-out invasion of Ukraine.

Early in the conflict, Russian forces were halted by Ukrainian forces, who also drove back Kremlin forces in several locations. However, the battle gradually evolved into a drawn-out conflict, with the majority of the combat occurring in eastern Ukraine.

Last year’s counteroffensive by the Ukrainians was unable to secure any substantial new territory. Russia has been resuming attacks on Kharkiv, a city in northeastern Ukraine that is 20 miles (30 km) from the Russian border, in recent weeks.

Biden Praises Ukraine Combat Efforts and Approves Strikes on Russian Targets

Biden praised Ukraine’s “impressive” combat efforts against Russia on Friday.

You haven’t submitted it. You have not at all given in. He addressed Zelenskyy, saying, “You still fight in a way that is remarkable.”

To defend Kharkiv, Washington said last month that it had permitted Kyiv to attack targets inside Russia with weaponry supplied by the US.

Zelenskyy indicated on Friday that the conflict is changing as a result of the relocation.

“Your choices have had a favorable impact. Sorry, but I don’t want to give the press access to all the information,” Zelenskyy said to Biden.

However, I believe there are some elements from the battlefield that you should know about. We are thankful for this.
