“The authorities stated, ‘We’re waiting to hear back from the mining company and see what the geologists and engineers have to say about it.'”
“We decided to shut down the whole facility for now,” they stated, highlighting that the public area will stay closed until an official notification that all sections, except the soccer fields, are secure.
What caused the Big Sinkhole in Alton, which Measured 100 Feet?
The horrific incident begins near the sidelines and quickly covers a light tower. It is believed that an old underground mine belonging to New Frontier Materials exists under the earth.
The mine’s ceiling is very narrow, measuring 40-50 feet. The tragic accident created a big hole at least 100 feet wide and deep, seriously near another mine, increasing fears about potential additional damage.
Oh my gosh. That is unpredictable! My three children and I come here all the time. Strangely, my oldest wants to play soccer, which scares me,” stated a local.

“I can’t believe the footage of that creature,” remarked one person. Another added, “We came to the park today to play tennis and pickleball, but it seems that won’t be happening.”
“Inspectors and experts from New Frontier Materials will seal the damaged area and keep it off limits for an extended period while they inspect the mine and make repairs.” The incident reported to the Mine Safety Health Administration (MSHA) by regulations resulted in no injuries, sources confirmed.
