4 Dead, 18 Injured Mass Shooting in Birmingham, Say Alabama Police

A mass shooting in Birmingham, Alabama, left four people dead and eighteen more injured, according to authorities on Sunday.

Hours after the incident, which took place in what he described as one of the city’s “most popular entertainment districts,” Birmingham Police Officer Truman Fitzgerald told a news conference that some of the injured had “life-threatening injuries.”

Authorities in the Five Points South neighbourhood said they think several suspects opened fire on a sizable gathering of persons who gathered outside close to Magnolia Avenue and no sooner had the gunshots ended than 11 p.m. CST.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue declared two men and one lady dead at the site. When police came, they discovered them unconscious on a sidewalk. Each suffered several gunshot wounds.

Employees at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital declared a fourth gunshot victim, a different male, dead. The police also recognized him as an adult guy.

The Mass Shooting in Birmingham, according to the detectives, wasn’t random. In a statement, the police stated that they believe it “stemmed from a single incident where multiple victims were caught in the crossfire.” They were still trying to figure out who the shooter was trying to hit.

Early on Sunday morning, Fitzgerald informed reporters that police “will do whatever we possibly can to make sure we find, identify, and hunt down whoever is responsible for spying on our people this morning.”

They have requested that anyone with information report tips anonymously to Crime Stoppers or contact the Birmingham Police Department’s homicide section. Police said the latter may offer up to $5,000 in tips.
